removal of the oil tank

15 OCTOBER 2012

[back post] Yes, this was done almost a year ago!  This is a 275-gallon piece of history.  A historical photo.  An account of something that is no longer.  You may detect a note of exuberance as I fondly recall the #2-oil-fired heating system, of which there is currently little sign.

Two guys from Auburn came by the morning of 9/28/2012, and made a pretty nice cut and haul operation. The tank had to weigh at least 100 lbs. itself.  So, at $280 a ton, the scrap value of the tank  was maybe 14 bucks.  I paid $50 to not have to do the work of sawing it in half (longways),  haul it out, and worry about the oil sludge disposal.  Hopefully Mark and his helper made the stop in at Maine Standard Biofuels, where oil residue is accepted oil in various of stages of coagulation-- usable for their waste-to-biodiesel operation.

And here’s another photo, with the dark, sedimented, syrupy stuff visible in the bottom half of the tank.  Neither good, nor good for you.  Gross.
