Ahhh… cracked plaster, how I’ve missed you.

27 OCTOBER 2013

Ahhh… Cracked Plaster, how I’ve missed you.

Another small dust storm touched down at 76 Melbourne Street.  Specifically, I began taking out awkwardly-placed bi-fold closet doors, and flipping the closet space towards the master bedroom.  Good thing I have patient, flexible, and helpful co-inhabitants here.  Marta as feng-shui consultant.  And william the helper and observer.  Even without the closet renovation, the project is justified in the couple of hard-earned moments of bravery, as Willy stood by as I cut a couple studs with the sawzall.  Loud enough to panic a tyke of 2-1/2 years?  Nope, he stood by and found my shoulder, and saw both rattling cuts through.  Later: running to mama pronouncing loudly “I was very brave!”  Man!

There is a lot going to happen in a small space, and hopefully a short amount of time:
  • Air sealing and insulation of the closet ceiling (previously just layered plaster lath and drywall.)
  • Conversion of the bi-fold doors to a recessed bookshelf
  • Bringing the closet forward about 18” into MBR.  Installation of sliding doors
  • NOT exposing or dressing the chimney, ala glossy architecture magazine
  • Reservation of space for split-zone Air Source Heat Pump unit (upper space in closet.
  • Creation of A/V chase and feed to an LCD projector (to watch the Lord of the Ring in high def.)

Stay tuned for more updates, onward with the hammers!
